On September 11th our lives were forever changed. I was in San Jose California and I'll never forget my band-mate John coming in and awakening me and saying you've got to turn on the television. So I turned it on and I remember it being like a movie. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
So immediately we rushed over to the San Jose airport to get a rental car because we wanted to come home to our loved ones, and it was a 40 hour trip home. I'll never forget while we were waiting at the airport, an American Airliner floating out of the sky and the skies were silent and we knew the last planes in the United States were in the air and that was one of them landing. For the first time in our history our airports had been closed.
So we started out, 40 hours back to Nashville and all along I-40 there were people waving American flags, signs that said "God Bless You" "God Bless America" on every bridge, on the overpass. And it was not lost on me that this is the MOST beautiful country in the world.
I picked up my guitar and over the course of the next 12 hours I wrote this song "More Beautiful Today". When I got back to Nashville I really felt the need to put it down, so on the 14th we went into the studio and recorded the song "More Beautiful Today".
